Gaining an eternal perspective

When we are discouraged or even in despair, we need to stop and focus on what the bible says so that we can gain an eternal perspective.

1)  Luke 10:20  “Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

2) 2 Corinthians 4:17  “For this light, momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”

3)  Romans 8:18  “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Luke 10:20

When we feel overwhelmed by life and the difficult circumstances that it brings, we can stop and think about this verse.  When I really dwell on this, I can’t fathom why God would have chosen me.  I am so unworthy of salvation.  He is so merciful.  After twenty-seven years of defying God and doing whatever I wanted to do to benefit me, not caring about pleasing God, why, why, why would He choose me?!  I certainly did absolutely nothing to deserve anything but hell and yet here I am –  a called, chosen, adopted daughter of the King of Kings – awesome and mind-boggling!! How can any trial be more significant than that!

2 Corinthians 4:17, Romans 8:18

The next two verses are very similar.  No matter what we go through in this life, it is really insignificant as we compare it to an eternity with the LORD.

We have been saved from the penalty of sin.

We are being saved from the power of sin.

We will be saved from the presence of sin.

Our trials here on earth are referred to as light, momentary afflictions and even if we live a hundred years, this life is so brief compared to eternity.

These scriptures give us a great perspective that we need to be reminded of every day.

What a beautiful future in the presence of Jesus we have to look forward to!!!
